There are several plant species living on the mountain Avala that are protected by the law as natural rarities: common laburnum, golden rain, darnel, a large number of medicinal plants and species under the control of use and trade: early purple orchid, snowdrop, cat grass, butcher's-broom, belladonna, oregano, male fern, wild sweet william, perforate St John's-wort, marshmallow, wild strawberry, elder, lungwort, common foxglove, henbanes, breckland thyme, teucrium, elecampane, european goldenrod, ruscaceae. The vegetation is mostly forest, while the meadow vegetation is reduced to a small number of localities. The vegetation of Avala is mostly oak forests and somewhat smaller foothill beech forests.
